Félicien Rops 'Entre les mains du diable'

Pondering a little further on Rops & Wiertz I arrived at the marvelous blog of l'@mateurdart, where I discovered a number of connections to my previous blogpost. First there's this diabolic drawing by Félicien Rops (1) , about whose satanic interests you can read more here.

The @mateurdart-blog is all about connections, connections between art works from the past and contemporary art, around several themes, mostly connected to sex and eroticism. Here he connects Roland Topor's siesta to the one by Félicien Rops I posted before (2).

And finally, a third connection to be mentioned (3). In his 'Eros Thanatos'-blogpost @mateurdart links Antoine Wiertz' 'La belle Rosine' to the work underneath by Marina Abramovic. Speaking of connections - they are erverywhere - the 'Woman & Death' theme suddenly reminded me of Marlene Dumas' 'Gelijkenis I & II', an artist about whom I should do a blogpost very soon. And oh, I jumped into a nice text ('The Wonderful And Frightening World Of Antoine Wiertz') about Wiertz here.

Gekocht in Tel Aviv. Een stel naakte, wachtende vrouwen, nergens een spoor van perfectie maar o zo onwezenlijk bevallig.
